ENTJThe Commander

Organizers who see the gap between what is and what could be, and treat closing it as their job.

Overview

ENTJs lead with extraverted thinking (Te), which means they think out loud, in structures, in service of getting a thing built. They are the type most comfortable holding the room — not because they crave attention but because the meeting is going to take twice as long if no one runs it. Auxiliary introverted intuition (Ni) supplies the long-range vision; without it, ENTJ Te can become bossy without a destination.

Where ENTJs get caricatured as ruthless, the truth is usually more specific: they are impatient with inefficiency and uncomfortable with ambiguity left unresolved. Tertiary extraverted sensing (Se) gives them genuine taste and a willingness to act on it. Inferior introverted feeling (Fi) is the blind spot — under stress, the ENTJ can dismiss their own and others' emotional reality as a distraction from the plan.

Good ENTJs grow by learning that the slowest part of any system is usually the people in it, and that respecting that slowness is not the same as tolerating waste.

Common questions about ENTJ

Is the ENTJ type really as rare/common as I've read?
Frequency estimates for individual MBTI types vary widely between sources and have never been measured against a properly representative sample. Treat any specific percentage you see — including the ones we use elsewhere — as approximate, not as a settled fact.
Can a ENTJ change type over time?
The dominant function of an adult tends to be stable. What changes substantially with age and experience is how well-developed the auxiliary and tertiary functions are. Most people who feel like their "type changed" are usually describing a real change in which functions they're relying on day-to-day, not a change in the underlying stack.
Why do I score as ENTJ on one test and a different type on another?
Most online tests measure self-reported preference on four dichotomies, which is a weaker signal than the cognitive function stack the type is supposed to describe. Borderline scores on any letter are common and meaningful. If two tests disagree, that's information — usually that one of the letters is genuinely close for you — not a failure of the test.
