1. The Greatest Salesman in the World

Author: Og Mandino

Category: Life book

Rating on GoodReads: 4.2/5

No of pages: 89

Book Summary/Overview:

The book was first published in 1968, and re-issued in 1983. The book has a main message to share that we all are salesmen in our own field and we all are selling some part of our work to others. The context about the book is how we can succeed in selling our work. The book starts with an incredible story of Hafid, a normal camel boy, who desires to become the greatest salesman in the world. To prove his potential ability, his master (Pathros) asks him to sell a robe in Bethlehem. Unfortunately, he fails as he gives the robe to warn a new born baby.

Pathros identify Hafid’s potential and presents him with 10 scrolls that reveal the secret of being the greatest salesman in the world. This book is a guide that has 10 ancient scrolls which contain the wisdom necessary for everyone to become the greatest salesman in the world.

Best line from the book:

Trust me, there are tons of them and it was difficult for me to choose one.

“Failure will never overtake you if your determination to succeed is strong enough”

Why to buy this book:

This book is destined to influence countless lives. We don’t realise but we sell some part of ourselves to others; be it selling your time on the job to earn money, selling your face to earn fame or selling a product of your own for the benefits of the humanity. We all are salesmen and the success we attain in life depends greatly on how we “sell” ourselves for others.

The book keeps you engaged as it narrates Hafid’s story in flashback and how he founded the 10 scrolls to become the greatest salesman in the world. The 10 scrolls are the 10 steps to become successful in whatever we are selling.

Why NOT to buy this book:

Honestly, 2/10 scrolls seemed impossible to implement in this generation of Kalyug. The scroll said that treat your enemies with love and never say anything bad for others even if they throw stones to you. I agree to some extend but, in the end, we are humans and not Gods. This couldn’t be implemented in the real world. (Just my thoughts, might be different for you.)

Conclusion:

If you are not a regular reader and looking for a good read, then this book is surely a great book to start with. I would recommend to read this book once in your whole life as it will teach you how to be goal oriented, face challenges/negativity, focused and what to do when nothing goes right. A must buy for such a low price.
